![]() ![]() Linux is about freedom to choose what works for you. See the beauty of linux is that I can choose and I can like many different desktop environments for many different reasons, and not one of my choices will be a "wrong" choice. Cinnamon has had issues in the past with repo's and Mate, well. ![]() Most software is either available in the repos or in the yaurt repo (as an example I have Docker installed, Skype, Steam, Chrome, Atom text editor etc.Įither of these two distro's should work just fine on an older MacBook,Īlso AntergOS has a very nice and well polished installer so no fear of the Arch linux install neededĬonsidering Gnome is essentials a dead desktop environment why recommend it? Cinnamon or Mate are better options at this time and more lightweight.īecause Gnome is far from "dead" and as the NEXT desktop to ship with UBUNTU 18.04 I would say Gnome is far from dead. AntergOS is very light and very fast as a result. However, If you have any amount of Linux knowledge or if you are feeling adventurous I would recommend AntergOS (this is an Arch linux derivative) rolling release, and it offers 6 desktop environments to pick from to install ( i recommend deepin or gnome). Ubuntu is, well, the default answer most people will give you.
